- Apostille

Apostille Ceritification or Authentication of Official Seals is a certification by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassy or Consulate in Japan. The Official Documents issued by the Public Office of Japan can not be recognized correctly by the Foreign Organization, so it is required these certification or authentication.


How to be certified

(1) Prepare the Documents

Prepare the Public Documents like Family Register, or Private Documents like Contract, Power of Attorney.

* However, the translated document into another language is the Private Documents.

  • If it is the Public Documents, go to next.
  • If it is the Private Documents, it must be authenticated by the Public Notary and ceritified the Public Notary Seal by Legal Affairs Bureau.

Prepare the Public Documents.

(2) Check the destination country

Is the destination country the signatory to the Hague Convention ?

  • If yes, get the Apostille Ceritification.
  • If no, get the Authentication of Official Seals and Ceritification of Embassy or Consulate in Japan.
(3) Apostille Ceritification or Authentication of Official Seals

Take the (1)Documents to the Foreign Affairs Office, and get the certificate of Apostille or Authentication of Official Seals.

  • If the required documents is the Apostille, use this documents.
  • If the Authentication of Official Seals is necessary, go to next.

(4) The Ambassador authentication

Get the authentication by taking (3)Documents to the Embassy or Consulate in Japan.
